UQRFC recently welcomed Hayato Kondo from Japan for a three-week exchange, as he became the first player from Toyo University Rugby Football Club to join the Red Heavies since the partnership between the two clubs was finalised last October.
Hayato-san first started playing rugby in the fourth grade when one of his friends invited him to try out the then relatively unknown sport in Japan.
Since, the prop has seen a significant growth in the popularity of rugby in Japan, especially following the success of the 2019 Rugby World Cup where he volunteered at various matches.
The chance to go on exchange has always interested Kondo, but it was the timeliness of the opportunity with the UQ Rugby Academy that grabbed his attention.
