Red Heavies win UQ Sport Club and Sport Awards

Red Heavies Angus Scott-Young and Mick Heenan have been honoured in the 2020 UQ Sport Club and Sport Awards.

The awards are a celebration of outstanding sporting achievements and recognition of coaches, volunteers and administrators.

The 2020 award recipients were announced on Monday 24 August with UQRFC’s Scott-Young taking out the top spot as UQ Sportsman of the Year.

The award is not only for excellence in the sport, but also for contribution to university life.

Angus has completed a degree in Commerce and Science in 2019 and has commenced a Bachelor of Medicine this year.

Other notable past recipients of this award have included former Wallabies captains Nathan Sharpe, Stephen Moore and Michael Lynagh.

UQRC head coach Michael (Mick) Heenan, received a Club Service Award in recognition for his service to the UQ Rugby Club.

Mick Heenan has been a member of UQRC since 1992 as both a player and coach.

He is also regarded as the club’s most successful coach, having won five Premier Grade titles during his 11-year tenure.

Other nominees for awards include Michael Heenan and Reg Tayler for Club Coach of the Year and Angus Scott-Young for Club All-Rounder of the Year.

The UQ Rugby Club was also nominated for President’s Cup which is awarded to the UQ club that has had significant achievements in competition.
