Want to play for University in 2013?

The University of Queensland Rugby Football Club is one of the oldest and most successful rugby clubs in Queensland. In 2012 our Premier Grade side won the premiership for the 25th time in its 101-year history, and the club won its third consecutive Doughty Shield (club championship across all grades).

You don’t need to be a University student to join the UQ Rugby Club.

Recent Wallaby representatives from our club include Wallaby captain James Horwill, hooker James Hanson, fly half Mike Harris and utility back Luke Morahan.

However, you don’t have to be warming the bench for the Reds if you want to play for us.

Last year we had seven grades (mens) teams, four colts (U19) teams and a women’s team, four of which taking home premierships.

We believe as a club that everyone contributes to our success whether it is their goal to one day represent their country or just to enjoy the more social side of rugby.


We have regular club events for all our players and volunteers, including club nights to help unwind after a hard-fought battle on the field. We also have a touring culture having recently toured the UK defeating both the Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

 Pre-season training commences on Tuesday, January 29th 2013 at 6:30pm, and will continue every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30pm throughout the season.


FACILITIES

We are situated at the beautiful University of Queensland overlooking the athletics track (field 5A) on Sir William Macgregor Drive.

We have three rugby ovals; our fields are the most well-maintained in club rugby.


FOR NEW PLAYERS OUTSIDE BRISBANE

New players are more than welcome at our club.

Each season we attract players from across the globe, regional Queensland and Australia..

If you are coming to the club from overseas, outside of Queensland or from another Brisbane competition you need to complete a clearance form and have it signed by your current union.

 

FEES

Playing fees for 2013 are $360 and include the following:

  • ARU insurance
  •  Club training shirt
  • Playing socks and shorts
  • Playing jersey at the end of the season
  • Laundering of playing jerseys
  • Medical equipment on Match days
  • QRU Affiliation
  • QRRA Referee Fees

 

 

ACADEMY

If you’re interested in anything we have to offer outside of regular training and game days then the Academy might be right up your alley.

Our UQ Rugby Academy has offered players the ability to expand their skill set to push for higher honours.

Recent Academy players include Brumbies scrum half Ian Prior, Australian Sevens players Con Foley and Nick Malouf, and Reds flyer Jonno Lance.
